BOYS BASKETBALL: Rockmart clips Central-Carroll to earn state playoff berth

  • ()
First year Rockmart High School head coach Kyle Stephens said back in December he had scheduled a tough non-region schedule to help his team prepare for the important region games later in the season.
On Wednesday at Douglass High School in the second round of the Region 4-AAA tournament, Stephens plan proved true.
Facing the No. 3 seeded team in the region, Central-Carroll (14-11), the Yellow Jackets pulled out a 47-44 upset win against a team they had exciting games with recently.
The Lions and sixth-seeded Yellow Jackets (10-16) had all three games this season decided by five points or less.
With the victory, the Yellow Jackets earn a berth in the Class AAA state playoffs.
Rockmart will now play against No. 2 seed Douglass (14-10) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the region tournament semifinals.
If the Yellow Jackets win, they will play in the region championship game Saturday at 8:30 p.m. If Rockmart loses, they will play in the third-place game on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
