Action began Monday at Model High School in the Region 7-AA prep basketball tournament.

The Pepperell girls’ team opened the tourney with a 44-31 win against Coosa.

Pepperell’s Carolina Clark led the Lady Dragons with 10 points. Cailey Mansell and Kinsey Wright each added seven points for the Lady Dragons.

Maddie Shell led the Lady Eagles with nine points.

The Coosa boys moved on with a 64-60 win against Gordon Central.

Kenon Dixon racked up 24 points to carry the Eagles.

Jaylon Nelson and Sean Brown each added 10 points for the Eagles.

The Coosa boys will next face Dade County today at 5:30 p.m. The Pepperell girls will play against Chattooga at 4 p.m.

Darlington boys move on

The Darlington boys’ basketball team came away with close win Monday against Gordon Lee in the opening round of the Region 6-A tournament.

The Tigers won 53-50.

Andrew Land led Darlington (13-9) with 17 points, JD Hull had 16 points and Sam Tackeberry added 13 points.

Darlington will next go up against St. Frances on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Walker.
