BASKETBALL: LaFayette comes up short at Dalton

  • ()

The LaFayette Ramblers led 30-26 at halftime, but couldn't hold onto the lead Tuesday night as they fell 57-55 at Dalton.

The Catamounts (13-4, 3-1) used a 19-2 third-quarter run to take command, and they led by 10 with 1:30 to play.

But the Ramblers (9-9, 1-3) hit three consecutive three-pointers, combined with some Dalton misses at the charity stripe, to give themselves a chance late. However, LaFayette misses a potential game-tying shot with six seconds to play, allowing Dalton to escape with the win.

Tyler Shropshire had 20 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in the loss. Kyle Bloodworth had 13 points, while Lance Estus and Patrck Simmons had nine each.

Demond Rucker had 22 points and eight boards for the Catamounts.

The night's first game saw the Lady Catamounts (15-4, 4-0) shoot better than 60 percent from the floor in the first half in a 66-46 win. Dalton led 28-10 after one quarterand 41-16 at the break.

Maddie Howell had 17 points for the winners. Jessica Ingram had nine for the Lady Ramblers (10-9, 1-3). Tori Hunter had six points and nine rebounds, while Michaela Suttles pulled down 14 boards.

LaFayette will be at home on Friday against Heritage.
