BASKETBALL: Cedartown gets swept by Cass

  • ()

The Cedartown Lady Bulldogs were looking to pull their second upset in as many nights. However, playing an extra period on Wednesday eventually caught up to the local high school basketball team as they lost to Cass, 64-56.

"We won the first three quarters, tied the fourth, but we did nothing in overtime," head coach Johna Tidwell said. "We just didn't finish a winnable game."

Tia Covington had a team-high 18 points, Arkeria Boozer scored 17, Victoria Frazier had 13 and Lexy Barnett scored eight.

"It was a tough loss," Tidwell said. "Having a young team can be tough sometimes. But we will refocus and get prepared to go on the road Friday and play Gilmer."

With the setback, the Lady Bulldogs fall to 8-12 overall and 1-5 in Region 7-AAAA, sub-region 'A' play.

The Bulldogs, meanwhile, played the Colonels close at home but eventually fell, 48-35.

Cass opened the game on a 5-0 run before Cedartown battled back and tied the contest in the second quarter at 15 on a Mason Cox basket.

The Colonels (9-16, 2-6) would pull back ahead and take a 20-17 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, Cedartown was outscored 16-8 to fall behind 36-25 after three quarters of play.

In the final period, Cass outscored Cedartown 12-10 to pull out the 13 point win.

With the setback, the Bulldogs fall to 3-17 overall and 1-5 in the sub-region.

Both Cedartown teams will be back in action on Friday at Gilmer. On Saturday Cedartown will visit River Ridge to close out the regular season. Both games are sub-region contests.
