BASEBALL: Rockmart's rally comes up short against Adairsville

  • ()

Even though the Rockmart Yellow Jackets lost a non-region baseball game at home Monday, they proved to head coach Courtney Hammock that they are a team that refuses to give up.

Rockmart (1-3) fell behind 5-0 early and then trailed 9-3 in the third inning. However, the Yellow Jackets scored the last five runs of the contest, and had a chance for more in their final at bat before eventually losing 9-8 to Adairsville.

Rockmart had the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but was unable to get the tying run in.

"We fought back in the bottom of the seventh," Hammock said. "I told the kids that I was proud that they fought back and played hard until the end. They didn't give up."

Hammock noted that Tritt Fennell, Alex Baldwin, Luke Hembree and Chet Miller all had productive days at the plate.

"We are getting better, we've just got to keep fighting," Hammock said.

Rockmart will vist Armuchee on Wednesday for another non-region game.
