Baseball: Parrish and Chattin play in Preseason All-American game

Two local baseball players recently had the opportunity of a lifetime.

Ringgold’s Adam Parrish and Heritage High School’s Colby Chattin were among the 300 players who participated in the Under Armour Preseason All-American tournament in Arizona on Jan. 17-20.

Chattin, who will begin play with the Generals on Friday against visiting Gordon Lee at …, said it was an experience he will never forget.

“That was a dream in itself,” the third baseman/catcher said. “The atmosphere and scenery were awesome, and playing with people from all over the place was such a huge experience. We didn’t do as many drills as we have in the past at Baseball Factory events, but overall it was an awesome experience and a blessing from God.”

Chattin said he was excited about getting the season underway with Heritage.

He said he believes this season will be a good one for the Navy-and-Red with a strong returning class of seniors who helped the Generals advance to the state playoffs in 2012.

“We’ve played together so long, through the summer and in school ball,” he said. “It’s setting up for possibly a really good year. It’s going to depend on how hard we practice, and play as a team and not individuals.”

Parrish, who is set for Thursdays season opener with visiting Calhoun at 5:30 p.m., said the tournament was a “big opportunity.”

“It was a lot of fun,” he said. “The competition was good. I threw four innings. There were a lot of good kids there. They were the top kids in the nation.”

Parrish, who should be the Tigers ace this spring, said he’s ready to get to work on the diamond following Ringgold’s runner-up finish in 2012.

“I’m really excited about the upcoming season,” he said. “We’re going to be really good. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

Ringgold’s “Meet the Tigers” event is also set for Friday at the Depot in Ringgold for 6 p.m.
