The Pepperell baseball program announced on Thursday that the Otis Gilbreath field dedication ceremony — originally scheduled for today — has been pushed back to Tuesday, April 16, at 5 p.m.
The ceremony will be held prior to the Dragons’ game against Murray County.
The Dragons are renaming their home field in honor of the late Gilbreath, the legendary coach who guided Pepperell to a staggering six state championships. Gilbreath coached at Pepperell for 42 years, from 1947 to 1989.
This year’s Pepperell team owns a 13-2 record, including a 7-0 mark in Region 7-AA.
The Dragons rolled to a 7-1 victory over perennial state powerhouse Calhoun in a 7-AA contest on Tuesday night in Lindale.
Pitcher Tyler Smith rang up 12 strikeouts in 6 2-3 innings, and the Dragons’ offense supported him with a five-run rally in the fourth inning that was highlighted by Jackie Harwell’s two-run double.
