The Georgia Highlands women’s basketball team battled South Georgia Tech down to the wire but came up short 65-63 in the NJCAA Region XVII championship game.
GHC led 16-12 after the first period of play. South Georgia Tech tied the game up at 16 with 8:14 to go in the first half and took their first lead of the day 20-18 with 4:53 remaining in the half. GHC tied the game at 25 at the end of the first half.
Late in the fourth period GHC’s Taylor Farley gave the Lady Chargers the lead on two free throws 52-51. South Georgia Tech took the a 64-60 lead with 8 seconds remaining.
Farley drove the length of the floor and hit a three to make it a 64-63 game with 5 seconds remaining. The Lady Chargers had to foul and South Georgia Tech made the free throw to go up 65-63 and seal the win and the championship.
The Lady Chargers were led by sophomore Taylor Farley with 14 points, four rebounds and six assists, and Kateryna Khomenko with 14 points, four rebounds and one block.
