For the first time in the program’s history, Berry College’s women’s swimming team will send athletes to the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships.
Brooke Boyd, Sarah Pierce, Maggie Hogsed and Haley Brown will compete at the Indiana University Natatorium as members of the Vikings’ 800-yard freestyle relay team.
The NCAA Division III Women’s Swimming and Diving Committee announced the participants for the 2018 national meet Wednesday.
In addition to the relay, Brown and Boyd also have B-cuts in the 100-yard freestyle and the 1,650-yard freestyle, respectively, and will compete in those events.
Brown will lead the young relay squad as the lone senior in addition to sophomore Pierce and freshmen Hogsed and Boyd.
“It’s a great accomplishment for our program,” Berry head coach Paul Flinchbaugh said. “I am so proud of these four ladies for securing the first NCAA national invitation in the program’s history.”
The championships will be held March 21-24 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Franklin College and the Indiana Sports Corporation will serve as co-hosts. A total of 579 participants — 526 swimmers and 53 divers — will compete in the championships.
