It was announced Tuesday that Berry College senior defensive end Mamadou Soumahoro was selected first team Preseason All-American by D3Football.com.
The lone Southern Athletic Association player to earn the honor, Soumahoro led the nation last season with 15 solo sacks and had one of the most impressive seasons in all of NCAA Division III.
A native of Lawrenceville, Soumahoro finished with 47 tackles, 20 tackles for loss and four recovered fumbles on the way to becoming the SAA Defensive Player of the Year.
Soumahoro anchored a defense that allowed less than 20 points six times last season, including its final four games of the season. He was an integral part in the Vikings going 9-1 and being named SAA Co-Champions for the first time in school history.
Berry begins its season on Sept. 2 when it travels to play Maryville.
