Reader asks for a better way to protest

The current controversy over kneeling or standing for the National Anthem being played at sporting events has resulted in further division between good citizens of these United States of America.

Colin Kaepernick began his protest of unequal treatment of Black Americans and minorities more than a year ago. Today, the NFL doesn't know what to do to resolve the problem and neither do I. But I do believe that the wrong venue has been chosen for the protest.

By choosing to kneel while the anthem is played, countless Americans of all races are being insulted, and that is wrong. The people who are being insulted have no responsibility for the inequality that minorities suffer.

The men and women who have served our country in the military, who have sacrificed so much to secure and preserve our freedoms, the 'First Responders' (yes, that includes the police) who risk their lives to protect and help others, and the good neighbors and citizens who just want to make this world a better place to live.

It's true that this country is not perfect. Nothing in this world is. But the United States comes closer to perfection than anywhere else. Just look how far we've come since our founding. Our Constitution is the most amazing document that has ever been produced by humans. Our free market capitalist system has proven to be the finest engine of opportunity in the world, and our representative democracy system of government has provided stability through all of our “growing pains.”

Consider the standard of living for the average American compared to the rest of the world. Can you really think of any other place you would rather live?

But we must get by this current protest. Let's move it out of the NFL to a more appropriate place. I suspect we will find much more support somewhere else. And we must not leave God out of it.
