Woman accused of taking purses from shopping carts

A Tennessee woman remained in jail Monday without bond after being accused of taking purses from shopping carts at two local stores.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Freda Darlene Garrett, 38, of Decatur, Tennessee, was arrested Sunday on warrants stating that on Dec. 30 and Dec. 31, she took women’s purses from shopping carts at Wal-Mart, 2510 Redmond Circle, and Sam’s Club, 2550 Redmond Circle,

On Dec. 30, at Walmart, Garrett took a purse belonging to an 81-year-old woman from her shopping cart. The purse contained credit cards, a wallet and cellphone.

On Dec. 31, at Sam’s Club, she snatched a Coach purse from a woman’s shopping cart. The purse contained a Coach wallet, a cellphone, keys, credit cards and a checkbook.

On that same day, Garrett attempted to use the checkbook and identification belonging to the second victim.

Garrett is charged with two felony counts of robbery. She is also charged with felony counts of identity fraud and being a fugitive from justice. She also is charged with two misdemeanor counts of theft by taking.
