A Rome man accused of battery under the Family Violence Act was in jail without bond Sunday night.
According to Floyd County Jail records:
Christopher Aaron Godfrey, 34, of 306 Woodward St., is charged with felony possession of a knife during the commission of a crime, misde-meanor battery under the FVA and two misdemeanor counts of third-degree cruelty to children under the FVA.
Godfrey is accused of hitting a 37-year-old woman early Sunday morning in the presence of two children, one of whom fled the house to call 911. The beating caused injury and marks on her face, neck and arms.
He had with him at the time a knife with a fixed blade at least five inches long.
