Report: Man took 28,000 pounds of aluminum from employer

A Rome man was released from jail on a $5,700 bond Friday after being accused of working with another person to take 28,000 pounds of aluminum from his employer, Cycle Tex Inc., between May 1 and Nov. 2.

According to Floyd County Jail reports:

Rafael Mascote-Lopez, 41, of S. Sycamore St., was arrested Thursday. He and another person, who is not named in the arrest warrant for Mascote-Lopez, took the aluminum from the business at 906 E. Hermitage Road without the employer knowing. They then recycled the stolen materials to get money.

The warrant does not indicate how much money they received from recycling the aluminum or how they were able to take the materials.

Mascote-Lopez is charged with felony theft by taking.
