A Rome man faces a long list of charges after he struck a woman with his fist in violation of a conditional bond on previous charges, and then ran from officers and head-butted windows in two law enforcement vehicles on the way to jail.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Deon Lamon Watkins, 34, of 2507 Callier Springs Road, was initially arrested Tuesday on Smith Street after slugging a woman in the presence of children around 4:30 Tuesday afternoon. He ran from that scene but was caught quickly by Rome Police officers.
On the way to the Floyd County Jail, Watkins allegedly rammed his head into the rear window of the city police cruiser near the intersection of Harvey Street and North Broad Street. After being transferred to a Sheriff’s Dept. vehicle, Watkins head-butted the back window of that vehicle as well, causing extensive damage to the car.
During the process of getting Watkins under control, he allegedly made threats against one of the city police officers.
Watkins is charged with felonies for escape, criminal damage to property, interference with government property, two counts of willful obstruction of law enforcement officers, terroristic threats and aggravated stalking. He was charged with misdemeanors for obstruction, simple battery, criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct and cruelty towards children.
Watkins was being held in the Floyd County Jail without bond Wednesday morning.
