Rome and Floyd County police were looking for a man Thursday night they believe attacked and slashed a woman with a machete at a home on Presley Street — he reportedly made off on a bicycle.

According to Floyd County police:

A 32-year-old woman suffered a substantial laceration to her left hand during the incident which occurred at 110 Presley Street around 5:30 p.m.

County officer Craig Stanfield said the victim was able to escape the home through a rear window and run about two blocks to a home on Nanellen Road.

She was treated inside the home on Nanellen Road by Floyd Medical Center emergency medical technicians, but she was not taken to the hospital.

After interviewing residents in the neighborhood, Rome police assisted in the search for the man, who fled toward Burnett Ferry Road on a bike shortly after the incident.
