Rome police are investigating a complaint of illegal gambling at a shop on Shorter Avenue that was filed by a woman who said she wasn’t paid her full jackpot winnings.
According to police reports:
A 23-year-old woman called police Wednesday to report she won a $2,544.17 jackpot on one of the video gaming machines on Aug. 23 but only received $844 in cash. She said the money was paid in two installments but the manager then texted her boyfriend to say he would not pay the balance.
The manager told police the complaint is not true, citing state law that limits video gaming payouts to store merchandise only.
