Pedestrian sent to Tennessee hospital after wreck in Coosa Monday night

A Rome man is recovering in a Chattanooga hospital after suffering serious in-juries Monday night when he was struck by a car on State Route 20 near Coosa High School.

According to the Georgia State Patrol:

A pedestrian, identified as Phillip Mulkey, 47, of Rome, was in the inside east-bound lane of the Alabama Highway just west of Coosa High School a few minutes before 8 p.m. Monday night when was struck by a Chevy Malibu travel-ing eastbound. "I'm not sure if he was trying to cross the road and was just out in the road," said TFC Jeremy Battle.

Mulkey sustained multiple injuries and was transported from the scene by Floyd Medical Center ambulance personnel. His condition was stabilized in the Floyd Emergency Room before he was transferred to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga where he was reported in stable condition Tuesday evening.

At this point, no charges have been filed against the driver of the Chevy, Kimberly Butler, 46, of Rome.
