No serious injuries were reported when a Rome Police Department patrol car collided with a motorcycle on Shorter Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday.
According to Rome police Lt. John Walters:
A motorcycle was stopped in the turn lane on Shorter at Old Airport Road but the officer, whose name was not immediately available, didn’t see it when he drove into the lane.
The impact tipped the bike and dented the front bumper of the patrol car. The driver and passenger were taken to Redmond Regional Medical Center.
Mandy Young said her husband, Dustin Young, was driving the Harley Davidson and her sister Brooke Cook was the passenger. Both seemed OK, she said, but she had urged them to go to the hospital to be checked out.
Young said she was at her home on Mississippi Drive when someone who knew her husband saw the wreck and came to bring her to the scene. She was waiting for her father-in-law to help remove the bike from the road.
Walters said the Floyd County Police Department was called to investigate the collision. He said the officer involved would undergo a series of tests that are mandatory following a wreck.
