A Rome man was in jail without bond Friday night after being accused of taking his grandmother’s vehicle without her permission along with taking her purse.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Michael Eddie Stewart, 33, of 2691 N. Broad St. Extension, was originally arrested Feb. 18 on a misdemeanor theft by taking warrant. In that incident he took a woman’s bicycle valued at $140.
On Friday he was charged with felony theft by taking a motor vehicle and exploitation of the elderly. He was also charged with misdemeanor driving on a suspended license.
These charges stem from another incident on Feb. 18, when he took his 83-year-old grandmother’s vehicle and drove it on a suspended license. He also took her purse and hid it from her, causing her “mental anguish.”
