A Whitfield County man who was jailed in Rome back in July of 2015 faces new felony charges after striking a Floyd County Jail officer.
According to Floyd County Jail reports:
Eric Jordan Hunter, 25, of 2014 Wesley Court, Dalton, was charged with felony riot in a penal institution and obstruction of an officer as well as a misdemeanor for simple battery against a law enforcement officer.
He struck a jailer after refusing to obey commands from the officer during an incident around 1:30 Friday afternoon.
Hunter is being held without bond on warrants charging him with felony murder, aggravated assault, aggravated battery, robbery and a prior riot in a penal institution.
Hunter is one of two men charged with the April 2015 robbery and murder of Nicholas Shropshire of Chattooga County. Hunter and John Henry Wetherington Jr., 28, also of Dalton, are accused of meeting Shropshire north of Rome on April 18, 2015, for a drug deal. Authorities say Shropshire was robbed of $1,500, then killed and his body dumped off the side of Floyd Springs Road.
