CARTERSVILLE — Bartow County Sheriff’s deputies working with Department of Natural Resources personnel recovered the body of a 17-year-old male from the Etowah River near Cartersville Tuesday afternoon.
Sgt. Jonathan Rogers with the Bartow SO said the teenager’s body was found in eight to nine feet of water in an area between Old River Road and Ga. 293.
Authorities were notified around 1:30 and recovered the body around 4 p.m.
“They were swimming and he went under,” Rogers said. The victim was swimming with what Rogers called a small group of friends. He estimated that there may have been as many as five people in the water.
Bartow County EMS PIO Brad Cothran said the teenager was from Paulding county, and the body was recovered about 300 yards downriver from where the group was swimming.
The name of the victim has not been released.
