Authorities: Man smoked meth next to sleeping baby at motel

A Rome man accused of smoking meth next to a sleeping baby remained in jail Monday night without bond, Floyd County Jail reports state.

According to records:

Ransom Lane Powell, 22, of 422 E. 20th St., was at the Stay Lodge, 2005 Dean Ave., about 12:40 p.m. Monday. Found in a smoke-filled room, Powell had a glass pipe with suspected meth residue as a baby slept in a bed nearby.

Powell faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects and third-degree child cruelty.

A woman facing the same charges also was arrested at the motel by the same officer. Amber Rheanne Brown, 19, of 210 Walnut Ave., Lindale, had no bond Monday night.
