Ward Pickens “Bud” Horton Sr. passed away November 18, 2017. He was born March 2, 1936 in Rome, Georgia to Ward Beecher Horton and Ruth Selman Horton, the youngest of seven children. He graduated from Rome High School and married Patricia Faye Skelton. He joined the Navy and they moved to California for four years. After being honorably discharged, he moved his family back to his beloved Georgia. He soon found work with Wilson Sporting Goods and found his calling. He spent 40 plus years developing the gift that God had so richly given him. During that time, he received his BBA from Oglethorpe University.

He loved his family first and foremost. His favorite quote was “The best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother.” And he truly did! They were married 63 years. He also loved fellowship with his many friends and the years he spent with the Atlanta Braves. There was no other baseball team that existed. Win or lose, they were his team.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; daughter, Lenn Dinkins; daughter, Cindy Watts, and her husband, Victor; and son, Chip Horton; granddaughter, Leslie Perez, and her husband, Jeremiah; grandson, Ryan Watts; great-granddaughter, Eleanor Perez; great-grandson, Ripley Perez; one surviving sister, Betty Ann Griffin; several nieces and nephews: and our very special friend, Joe Lassiter. The memorial to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2:00 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son, Oglethorpe Hill Chapel, 4550 Peachtree Road NW, Brookhaven, Ga. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
