The Rev. Jackie Columbus Culberson Sr., age 75, of Rome, passed away Sunday, September 24, 2017, at his residence.
The Rev. Culberson was born in Floyd County on January 12, 1942, son of the late Walter Columbus Culberson and the late Bernice Mamie Martin Culberson. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Linda McDaniel and Willie Faye Culberson. He attended Model High School in Shannon and served in the Army National Guard for 8 years. The Rev. Culberson retired from Temple-Inland following many years of employment. A bi-vocational Pastor, he served as Pastor of Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Shannon for a number of years. He attended North Rome Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, the former Nancy Lee Tate, to whom he was married on February 7, 1960; five children, Michele Lambert, and her husband, Joe, Rome; Kathy Beall, and her husband, Brad, Rome; Melanie Bonney, and her husband, Clete, Rome; Jackie Culberson Jr., and his wife, Georgia, Rome; and Todd Culberson, and his wife, Kim, Silver Creek; a sister, Joan Carroll, Rome; a brother, Jerry Culberson, and his wife, Jacqueline, Spring Garden, Ala.; 13 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Vines officiating. Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday from 4 until 7 p.m.
Pallbearers are requested to assemble at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. and include Grady Carroll, Jeremy Culberson, Jason Culberson, Joe Lambert, Clete Bonney, Brad Beall, Bryant Culberson, and Lamar Teems.
