Ruth Montgomery Knowles Doxzen

Mrs. Ruth Montgomery Knowles Doxzen, age 92, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, January 11, 2017 at The Fountain­view Center for Alzheimer’s Disease in Atlanta after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Ruth was born in Cave Spring on September 1, 1924, daughter of the late James Lyle and Eunice Shaw Montgomery. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James A. “Bo” Knowles and William Doxzen, by four sisters, Verdelle Guiliani, Cleo Singleton, Helen Dowdey and Martha Lou Salmon, and by a brother, Otis R. Montgomery. Mrs. Doxzen was a graduate of Cave Spring High School. Prior to retirement in 1986, she worked for West Point Pepperell for 31 years. She was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Sheldon, Marietta; two sons, Joey (Angie) Knowles, Rockmart, and John (Lynn) Knowles, Hayesville, NC; grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer) Sheldon, Marietta, Suzanne (Melinda) Sheldon, Weaverville, NC, David (Sarah) Knowles, Jersey City, NJ, and Darrell Knowles, Kennesaw; two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Meredith Sheldon, Marietta and one great-grandson Jacob Knowles, Jersey City, NJ; a brother-in-law, L. E. “Junior” Salmon, Rome; four nieces, Donna (Bob) Burdick, Greenville, RI; Barbara Stevens, Louisville, KY, Lynn (James) Terrell, Rome; Carolyn (Ken) Gilbert, Thompson; and two nephews, Jim Montgomery (Judy), Louisville, KY; Dell (Miquina) Knowles, Rome.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Millie Kim officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel on Sunday from 1pm until time of the service. At other hours, they will be at each of their respective residences.

Pallbearers are requested to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel on Sunday at 1:30pm and include: Michael Sheldon, David Knowles, Darrell Knowles, and James Terrell

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, 922 East Morris Street, Dalton, GA 30721.
