Ray L. Trussell, 84, of Rome, died Wednesday evening, November 1, 2017, in a local hospital.
A native of DeKalb County, Alabama, Mr. Trussell was born October 30, 1933, son of the late Daniel and Hattie Baker Trussell. He moved to Rome in 1970 and was associated with the Life of Virginia and State Mutual Insurance Companies. He later formed Trussell Insurance Agency. Mr. Trussell was energized by people and had a servant’s heart. He was an active member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church and was a deacon. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Park Avenue Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, and was preceded in death by his son, Lindsey James Trussell, on October 1, 2017.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Dobbs Trussell, to whom he was married December 19, 1959; son, Clay (Debbie) Trussel,l of Summerville, S.C.; and daughter, Seena (Bill) Croy, of Lindale;seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a sister, Lucille (Lyman) Crumbley, also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the Chapel of Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 2750 Shorter Avenue, with the Reverend Roger Lanter officiating. Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 p.m.until the service hour.
