George Russell Abrams

Mr. George Russell Abrams, age 71, of Silver Creek, Georgia, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017, at a local medical facility.

Mr. Abrams was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 2, 1946, the son of the late John Russell and late Connie Carroll Abrams. A graduate of Pepperell High School, he attended Floyd College. Mr. Abrams was a veteran and served as a Corpsman in the United States Navy. He was a member of Silver Creek Presbyterian Church for over 25 years and served as an Elder for 20 years. Mr. Abrams was a postal clerk with the United States Post Office for 35 years and a proud farmer of Tift 44 hay and cattle. Active in his community, he was a member of the Lindale Lodge #455 F. & A.M., the Floyd County Young Farmers Association, the Marine Corps League and was Past President of the Rome Chapter of the Atlanta Federal Retirees Associates.

Mr. Abrams is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lauren Timmerman Abrams; a son, George Russell “Russ” Abrams, and his wife, Jenna; and granddaughter, Collins Grace, of Donalds, S.C.; a sister, Ann Bing, of Rome, Ga.; and his step-mother, Bessie Smith Abrams, of Rome, Ga.

A memorial service will be held for Mr. Abrams on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Silver Creek Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to Silver Creek Presbyterian Church, 6 Old Rockmart Rd., Lindale, Ga. 30147 or Floyd County Young Farmer’s Scholarship Fund, Attn: Emilia Jackson, Pepperell High School, 3 Dragon Drive, Lindale, Ga. 30147.
