Mrs. Edna Ruth Mitchell Tolbert, age 90, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at a local healthcare facility.
Mrs. Tolbert was born in Lexley, Alabama on April 6, 1926, daughter of the late Claude T. Mitchell and the late Lindy Dempsey Mitchell. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Bowen, and by two brothers, Curtis Mitchell and Clarence Mitchell. Mrs. Tolbert worked for 15 years at the original Garden Lakes Pharmacy and then later worked at the Tog Shop in Riverbend Mall for several years. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church for 61 years where she was active in the WMU Circle and was a member of the Fellowship Class. Mrs. Tolbert was also a member of the Home Demonstration Club and 4-H.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin A. Tolbert, to whom she was married on June 28, 1947; a daughter, Cynthia Chester and her husband, David, Rome; a grandson, Jeff Chester and his wife, Sarah, Atlanta; a brother, Gene Mitchell and his wife, Jane, Adairsville; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017, at 2:30pm at the Trinity United Methodist Church with Dr. Ken Ott and the Rev. Wayne Hopper officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 1pm until the service time. At other hours, they will be at their respective residences.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church on Saturday at 2pm and include: Active: Hugh Mitchell, Tommy Mitchell, Kevin Mitchell, Chris Mitchell, Donnie Tolbert and Sam Collier. Honorary: The Fellowship Class at Trinity United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 606 Turner McCall Blvd., Rome, GA 30165.
