Mrs. Betty Elizabeth Mathis, age 89, of Lindale, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017, at her residence.
Mrs. Mathis was born in Rome, Ga. on February 5, 1928, daughter of the late James S. Bohanan Sr. and the late Annie Mae Drummond Bohanan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Mathis; by a sister, Mary Joan Bohanan Pyle; and by three brothers, James S. Bohanan Jr., John R. "Bub" Bohanan, and Charles Eugene Bohanan. She was a graduate of Rome Girls’ High School. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for many years with Reese-Huffman Insurance Agency in Rome. For many years, Mrs. Mathis worked with Floyd County Elections at the Barkers precinct. She served as a Pink Lady at Floyd Medical Center for several years and was a member at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her son, W. Mack Mathis III, and his wife, Sharon, Lindale; a sister, Barbara Bohanan Drummond, and her husband, Brady, Rome; a brother-in-law, Gene Pyle, Sebring, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Mathis, Rome; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
