Rome Board of Education members will elect their 2017 chairman and vice chairman today.

The board will caucus at 5 p.m. in the superintendent’s office and meet at 5:45 p.m. in the board room at the central office, 508 East Second St. Both meetings are open to the public.

“Other than the election of board officers, this is a pretty standard meeting,” explained Lou Byars, interim superintendent.

West Central Elementary will be the school featured in the monthly focus on student achievement. Principal Leslie Dixon will discuss  her students and what is happening at the school.

The board members also will hear a presentation about the system’s upcoming celebration of Black History Month, as well as an update on the status of education local option sales tax collections.
