The 13th annual Health Initiative for Men free health fair will take place Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Floyd County Health Department, 16 E. 12th St.
Services offered will include cholesterol and glucose checks, blood pressure screening, vision and dental exams, head and neck exams, HIV screening, skin exams and prostate cancer screenings (as currently recommended). Other regional providers and vendors will be on hand with additional services and education for participants.
“I have worked with this event for the last 12 years and it is one of the best things to have happened to Rome,” said Larry G. Morrow Sr., of the 100 Black Men of Rome. “There are many men that wouldn’t be able to receive these screenings otherwise. It has always been a wonderful collaboration between the medical community here.”
Since the event began in 2002, hundreds of men in the Rome community have received free health screenings and information about healthy living. For more information call 706-291-9809.
It is sponsored by 100 Black Men of Rome with community partners Floyd Medical Center, Harbin Clinic, Redmond Regional Medical Center, Floyd County Public Health, Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition, the American Cancer Society and the L’Amour DeSoeur social club.
