Deputy coroner says female jail inmate died of natural causes after being sent to FMC

No foul play is suspected in the death of a female Floyd County Jail inmate who died at Floyd Medical Center on Friday, a day after she was sent to the hospital, Deputy Coroner Ernie Studard said.

Kristi Michelle Parmer, 47, was pronounced dead at the hospital at 4:16 p.m. Friday and died of natural causes, according to Studard.

Carrie Edge, public information officer for the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, said the GBI was immediately notified and was at the jail Friday night conducting a follow-up investigation.

Parmer had been in the jail since July 7 on charges of aggravated assault and robbery.

“She had been in and out of our medical department since being with us,” Edge said.

Parmer was referred to FMC by Dr. Arnold Gaskins, head of the jails medical department.

“That’s standard practice if they feel there is something that needs more attention than we can provide at the jail,” Edge said.
