Sarah Margaret Hjort and Reid Thomas Morin were married at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 at Morris Chapel in Rome.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wilton Hjort, Jr. of Rome. The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Scott Randall Morin of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Pastor Bryan Pierce of Rome performed the double-ring ceremony. Arrangements of Cymbidium orchids, Orange Crush garden roses, Amaryllis, Hypericum berries, ranunculus, Kangaroo paw and fall foliage adorned the altar. The family pews were marked with Mango calla lilies, Free Spirit roses, Hypericum berries and fall foliage.

A program of wedding music was preformed by Sarah Lapp, of Charlottesville, Annie Camp and Donna Hester, of Rome, and John Bryant of Atlanta. Selections for prelude music included “Holy, Holy, Holy” and other hymns chosen by the bride and her family. Processional music included “Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major” and “Trumpet Concerto in Bb Major.” The bride entered the chapel to “Crown Him with Many Crowns.”

Cabell Sweeney of Rome and Scott Morin of Virginia Beach, Virginia served as readers.

Emily Anne Self of New York City was the maid of honor. Jilly Mangum and Jewel Stone of Washington, D.C.; Abigail Lynch of Boca Raton, Florida; Megan Thompson of Charlottesville, Virginia; Bridget Mudd of Tel Aviv, Israel; Annie Eldred and Caroline Gibson of New York City, Maggie Sparks of Athens, Jacquelyn Johnson of Birmingham, Alabama and Melissa Picon of Houston, Texas were bridesmaids. They wore formal, floor-length Hampton green crepe dresses. They carried bouquets of Cymbidium orchids, Amsterdam roses, seeded eucalyptus berries and ranunculus.

Cappie May of Rome served as junior bridesmaid.

The bride, given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, wore a custom LianCarlo design of Venetian lace cascading into a trumpet shaped French organza silhouette. The gown featured a sheer lace back and a chapel length train of organza. The bride wore a fingertip length veil featuring the Venetian lace of the bridal gown worn by her mother at her parents’ wedding. The bride carried a bouquet of shades of ivory blooms featuring orchids, calla lilies, garden roses and seeded eucalyptus as well as a lace handkerchief that was selected by the bride on the Isle of Burano, Venice, Italy.

Miles Morin, brother of the groom, of Richmond,Virginia was the best man. Morgan Barrett of Virginia Beach, Virginia; William Anderson, cousin of the bride, of Atlanta; John Collins and Sean Noona of Charlottesville, Virginia; Ben Alberico of Madison, Wisconsin; Brian Head of Orlando, Florida and Ben Turnbull of Boston, Massachusetts were the groomsmen.

Mary Morgan Yancey of Rome and Mary Bailey Jones of Atlanta served as program attendants.

The mother of the bride wore a formal silk column gown featuring a lace overlay of matte gold with a sheer illusion neckline and back. The mother of the groom wore a formal gown of maroon lace featuring capped sleeves. The mothers were presented with bouquets of garden roses and orchids.

Following the ceremony, a tented reception was held at the Coosa Country Club on the back lawn. The bride’s four-tier cake consisted of French vanilla layers, Meyer lemon filling and buttercream icing. The cake was adorned with handmade ivory and gold sugar cane flowers. The groom’s dessert table featured chocolate walnut brownies with vanilla ice cream.

The evening before the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Coosa Country Club. Other pre-nuptial parties included an engagement party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Delos Yancey, III and hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Rhett Butler, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Davis, Dr. and Mrs. Ken Davis, Dr. and Mrs. Rob Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Greg Fricks, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Gunther, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hine, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Hubbard, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kelly, Mr. and Mrs. Chason Mull, Mr. and Mrs. James Owens, Mr. and Mrs. Hal Richards, Mrs. Angie Stegall, Dr. and Mrs. Frank Stegall, and Mr. and Mrs. Thad Watters. On the day before the wedding, a bridesmaids’ luncheon was held at Barnsley Gardens and hosted by Mrs. Nancy Anderson and Mrs. Margaret Tidwell. On the day of the wedding, a lunch was held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Hector Picon and hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Beacham, Dr. and Mrs. Barry Brass, Dr. and Mrs. Paul Brock, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hobgood, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Holcombe, Dr. and Mrs. John Hostetler, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Johnson, Dr. and Mrs. Ken Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Knight, Mr. and Mrs. Mark MacKimm, Dr. and Mrs. Jay Riley, Mr. and Mrs. William Sparks, Mr. and Mrs. Mick Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Williams. After a wedding trip to Turks and Caicos, the couple resides in Charlotte, North Carolina.
