Claire Catherine Davis and Seth Connell McWhorter were married at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec.12, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Rome. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Anderson Davis of Rome. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Ted McWhorter of Athens.
Dr. P. Joel Snider of Rome performed the double-ring ceremony. Chrismon trees adorned the altar. Family pews were marked with white hydrangea and roses.
A program of wedding music was provided by pianist Beverly Harris, organist Joan Hill, and the Seven Hills String Quartet. Selections included “Sheep May Safely Graze,” “Hornpipe in D,” “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee,” “Toccata” and “Winter.”
Landon Elizabeth Watters of Rome was the maid of honor. Natalie Brock Babington of Rome, Hannah Farrell Grady and Annalese Herndon of Atlanta, Molli Marie Hummel of Dallas, Texas, Elizabeth Buice McGehee of Fort Walton, Florida, Christina Rutledge Ricks of Mobile, Alabama, and Margaret Hill Watford of Memphis, Tennessee were the bridesmaids. They wore formal, floor-length, slate-grey tulle gowns with necklines of her choosing. They carried bouquets of white hydrangea, roses, and Stars of Bethlehem with accents of berries and seasonal foliage.
Anna Grace Whitlow, niece of the groom, served as junior bridesmaid.
The bride, given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, wore a formal ivory organza gown with a boatneck lace top with lace along the hem and cathedral length train. She wore a fingertip length veil. She carried a bouquet of white hydrangea, champagne roses, miniature calla lilies, and white ranunculus.
William Ted McWhorter, father of the groom, of Athens and Bryant Bowen McWhorter, brother of the groom, of Deerfield, Illinois were the best men. William Ricks Batchelor of Charlotte, North Carolina, Hunter Anderson Davis, brother of the bride, of Athens, Austin William Fleming of Atlanta, William Loyd Mansour of Birmingham, Alabama, William Neisler Melton of Columbia, South Carolina, and William Gray Millsap of Dallas, Texas were the groomsmen.
Jackson Eli McWhorter, nephew of the groom, served as ring bearer.
The mother of the bride wore a formal dress featuring a ballet neckline, three-quarter length sleeves, and a full A-line skirt in a floral print jacquard of pale silver and black. The mother of the groom wore a custom gown of thai silk in soirée blue featuring an asymmetrical portrait collar and straight, back slit skirt. The mothers were presented with clutch bouquets of hydrangea and roses.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Coosa Country Club. Refreshments included the bride’s four-tiered cake, featuring alternating tiers of strawberry cake and red velvet cake. The outside of the cake was iced in cream cheese frosting and featured a cascade of flowers.
The evening before the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Dark Side of the Moon. Other pre-nuptial parties included an engagement party at the home of Peter and Emily Hjort, hosted by King and Mary Ann Askew, Bob and Bambi Berry, Bob and Maggie Brinson, Jeff and Allison Brooks, Rhett and Lisa Butler, Frank and Alice Clements, Rob and Frances Edwards, Norman and Dot Fletcher, Ed and Linda Hine, Jack and Nancy Knight, George and Nelray Lilly, Joe and Rebekah Montgomery, Chason and Kathy Mull, Neal and Myra Reynolds, Tom and Tammy Richardson, Joe and Catherine Seigler, Eric and Kathy Waters, Thad and Leigh Watters, and Dee and Molly Yancey. Friends of the groom hosted an engagement party at Parish in Atlanta. Hannah Grady, Annie Herndon, Molli Hummel, Margaret Watford, and Landon Watters hosted an “Around the House” shower for the bride. Joan Brock, Fran Buice, Donna Jones, Mai Mai Kelly, Elaine Smith, Rebecca Smith, Angie Stegall, and Judy Watters hosted a luncheon for the bridesmaids and friends the day before the wedding. Frank and Margaret Beacham, David and Carolyn Brearley, Lee and Cassidy Carter, Stewart and Kendall Duggan, Greg and Ramona Fricks, Bob and Susan Hortman, Sam and Julie Lucas, Stephen and Kimberly Moseley, Wiley and Anna Wasden, Ed and Allison Watters, Mark and Renee Webb, and Tom Welch all hosted a welcome party after the rehearsal dinner.
After a wedding trip to Turks and Caicos, the couple will reside in Atlanta.
