Sara Louise Pate and Christopher Ryan Congdon were married at 6 p.m., November 7, 2015 at Morris Chapel at Darlington School.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Desso Pate III Rome. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Stuart Congdon of Houston, Texas.
The Reverend Jonathan Christian of Jacksonville, Florida and The Reverend Bill Pardue of Rome performed the double-ring ceremony. The altar was decorated with large limestone urns filled with foliage, white and green hydrangea, larkspur, white roses, bells of Ireland and magnolia. Family pews were marked with bouquets of hydrangea and foliage.
A program of wedding music was provided by organist Donna Hester, trumpeter Adam Hayes, and soloist Leah Lawson. Selections included “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” “Trumpet Voluntary,” “Canon in D,” “Holy Spirit,” and “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee.”
Sierra Hanna of Orlando, Florida was the maid of honor. Katherine Fox of Houston, Texas was the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mary Chandler Allen of Atlanta, Kim Clark of Orlando, Florida; Sarah Congdon (sister of the groom) of Houston, Texas; Victoria Koster of Jacksonville, Florida; Leah Lawson of Nashville, Tennessee; Emily Luker of Orlando, Florida; Meredith Murphy of Austin, Texas; Stephanie Pate (sister-in-law of bride) of Nashville, Tennessee; Michelle Peteet of Athens, and Gracie Taylor and Lily Taylor, both of Orlando, Florida. They wore formal gowns of navy crinkled chiffon with varying necklines and shirred A-line skirts. They carried loose clutch bouquet of assorted foliage, seeded eucalyptus and white and green hydrangea, bound with navy ribbon.
Abigail, Caroline, and Emily DeLemos of Atlanta were the flower girls. They carried satin baskets filled with white rose petals.
The bride, given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, wore a fitted gown of exquisite Spanish lace. The gown featured a V-neck bodice and plunging back. The gently flowing skirt culminated in a scalloped-edged chapel length train. The bride completed her look with a cathedral length lace trimmed veil and a crystal embellished belt. She carried a loose garden clutch bouquet of assorted foliage and white hydrangea, white garden roses, white ranunculus, freesia, and stephanotis.
The best man was Brad Tigner of Houston, Texas. Groomsmen were Jon Congdon (brother of the groom) of Dallas, Texas; Richard Davies of Metatairie, Louisiana; Cory Fox of Houston, Texas; Camdeen Keener of Houston, Texas; Jacob Metcalf of Houston, Texas; Mike Miori of Houston, Texas; Jason Mohn Houston, Texas; Ben Pate (brother of the bride) of Nashville, Tennessee, Kyle Roliard of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Edward Scott of Houston, Texas; Kevin Siirchia of Carrollton, Texas and Adam Smith of Houston, Texas.
Ushers were Jason Hanzel of Midland, Texas and Ian Lancaster of Houston, Texas.
The mother of the bride wore a formal A-line gown with a taupe slip and a long sleeve white floral lace overlay. The mother of the groom wore a formal teal jacquard A-line gown with a Boat neck shawl collar with capped sleeves. The mothers were presented with nosegay bouquets of ivory roses.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Coosa Country Club. Refreshments included the bride’s three tier cake of alternating layers of white cake with raspberry pastry cream filling and carrot cake with caramel filling. The entire confection was covered in buttercream icing in a natural pattern, and adorned with flowers. The groom’s cake was carved into the shape of the state of Texas, with a Texas A & M logo on top, and an Auburn tiger’s tail peeking out from under the state of Texas.
The evening before the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Rome Area History Museum. Other pre-nuptial parties included an Engagement Party at Valley View Farm in Cartersville hosted by Susan and David Allen, Mary Ann and King Askew, Joan and Paul Brock, Pam and Russ Gates, Dana and Martin Goldberg, Abby and Bobby Holcombe, Martha and Rocky Huffman, Julie and Wyatt Mooring, Mary and Bob Norton, Rebecca and Frank Stegall, and Janice and Buster Wright; a bridal shower luncheon hosted by Mary Taylor and Linda Williams in Rome; a couples shower at the Country Club of Orlando, hosted by Heather and Kevin Taylor; an “I Do Brew” couples shower hosted by Katherine and Cory Fox in Houston, Texas and a bridal shower hosted by Sharon Congdon in Houston, Texas. On the day before the wedding, a bridesmaid’s luncheon was held at Harvest Moon, hosted by CeCe Wallis, Frances Edwards, Jane Brooks, the bride’s aunt, and Kathy Newman, the bride’s aunt.
After their honeymoon to Cancun, Mexico, the couple will reside in Houston, Texas.
