Redmond Regional Medical Center and the Rome Area Council for the Arts are pleased to announce that the 4th Annual Rome Community HeART Project People’s Choice Winner is Chandler Adams. His HeART, themed “Pass It On,” received the most votes on RACA’s Facebook page.
The 18-year-old Model High School student says he was inspired to create a piece that encourages others to “pass on” the lessons they have learned to younger generations. “These gifts that are passed allow us to discover our passions and to express ourselves in ways we never thought possible,” said the artist.
He had another goal in mind as well—“to create a piece you could feel, not just see.” After being told by a blind student how much he loved the HeART Project because he could feel the pieces, Adams set out to create artwork that not only had a lot of color, but texture as well.
“Among all the splatter paint, you are able to feel the silhouette of the father and the son. I wanted to create a HeART that allowed everyone to appreciate what it had to offer,” said Adams. “The arts are a great way to find and express yourself and I am fortunate to live in a town that allows me to do that.”
Adams’ original masterpiece was on display at the corner of East 2nd Avenue and Broad Street.
“I think Romans had their work cut out for them this year,” said Mandy Maloney, RACA executive director. “It would have been impossible for me to pick a favorite HeART. The talent in our town is superb, and with a project like this, the real winners are the people who live here.”
Throughout the month of February, Downtown Rome was home to 14 large concrete hearts and 4 heart garlands as the centerpieces for this year’s Rome Community HeART Project. HeARTs were placed in front of businesses, shops and restaurants as a way for local artists to share their talents and to bring attention to National Heart Month. The outdoor exhibition is sponsored each year by Redmond and RACA.
“As the heart hospital of Northwest Georgia, Redmond is proud to partner with RACA to produce the Rome Community HeART Project,” said Andrea Pitts, director of marketing and public relations for Redmond. “The HeARTs are a unique opportunity to combine public art with a message of heart health awareness.
