About the book: Lieutenant Doyle K. Whittenburg served in the 2nd Platoon, battery D, 639th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in the U.S. Army which defended towns, bridges and fuel depots against the German Luftwaffe.

The letters Doyle wrote to his bride, Juby, constitute a chronicle extending from his stateside training days until his return as a seasoned frontline combat veteran.

It also captures her mother’s recent reflections on her experience as a young war bride.
