Rome Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution announce state essay winner

Armuchee High School guidance counselor Tammy Law Drumm, Kayla Hutcherson and Gina Hutcherson, Kayla’s mother, at the Sons of the American Revolution luncheon.

The Rome Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution have announced Armuchee High School junior Kayla Hutcherson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Hutcherson of Armuchee, as the state winner of the George S. and Stella M. Knight Essay Contest.

The Knight Essay contest is opened to students in their freshman, sophomore, junior or senior years of study in public, parochial, private and home study schools. The contest is conducted in three phases: local Sons of the American Revolution Chapter, State Georgia Society and National Society. The award for the state contest is $600. Essays are themed on an event, person, philosophy or ideal associated with the American Revolution.

Hutcherson’s winning essay is titled “Unity: A Progressive Element during the American Revolution.” She will receive her award at the State Society banquet on Jan. 27 in Duluth.

As state winner her essay will be submitted for the national competition. The winner will be announced in April with a prize of $2500.

The Rome Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution is the second chartered chapter in Georgia.
