Nine years, 1,000 books

James Lowery stands among the library stacks.

After retiring from Colonial Bread in 2000, James Lowery worked for ten years at North Broad Baptist Church. In 2010, he took up reading as a hobby and decided to try to read at least 100 books a year. He kept track of these books in a notebook to avoid duplicates. This list did include the Bible, which he has read through 14 times.

Lowery frequents thrift stores, yard sales and the library looking for books he has not read.

On Friday, June 13, Lowery read his 1,000th book.
