Lovejoy Baptist Church recently celebrated its annual Rev. J.L. Vaughn Day. The Rev. Vaughn believed in education, fought for civil and human rights and preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Pastor Carey Ingram initiated a scholarship program in remembrance of the Rev. Vaughn. Rome High School Principal Eric Holland delivered a spirited message to a capacity crowd. Kevin Vaughn (far left), grandson of Rev. Vaughn, presented scholarships representing his father, J.L. Vaughn Jr. Students in attendance included Aaliyah Bowers, Jaylen Griffin, Desmond Johnson, Kelli Lambert, Jason Threadgill (accepting for his brother Miles Threadgill), TaCoria Williams, Kenneth Stallworth, JaTeria Colts and Jamila Wood. Pastor and Mrs. Carey N. Ingram (far right) assisted during the presentation.
