Steve and Ginger Smith of Rome, formerly of Columbus, announce the engagement of their son, Alan Douglas Smith to Sara Marie Carey of Sandy Cross.
The groom is a third-year student at Mercer University School of Law in Macon and is employed with the district attorney’s office of Bibb County. He is a cum laude graduate of Armstrong Atlantic University in Savannah. Alan is the grandson of Evelyn Davenport Smith and the late Chester Smith of Bremen, the late Virginia Thompson Williams and Leon T. Williams of Columbus, and the great-grandson of the late Sally Kate Golden Smith and Hoyt Smith of Cashtown community, Haralson County.
The bride-elect is a graduate of North Georgia University in Dahlonega and is a graduate student and teacher assistant of Biology at the University of Middle Georgia, Milledgeville. Sara is employed with Primary Pediatrics in Macon. She is the daughter of Dianna Denton Carey and the late Ronald Carey of Sandy Cross, and granddaughter of the late Clyde and Virginia Denton of Banks County, and the late Edwin and Gladys Carey of Franklin County.
The ceremony will be conducted by Dr. Jimmy Elder, Pastor, First Baptist Church, Columbus, and will take place on Oct. 14, 2017 at Juliette Chapel in Dahlonega. The couple will reside in Macon.
