Wood 50th Anniversary

Russell and Diane Woods

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Wood celebrated their 50th anniversary on Sunday, May 29 with a cookout hosted by their children: daughters Kinga Sims, Taryn Brown and Jodye Baker and their spouses.

The cookout was held at the home of their son Dr. Phillip Wood and this wife.

Russell and Diane were married in Blackshear on May 29, 1966 by Russell’s father, the late Rev. John Earl Wood.

Diane is the former Diane Ware and went to West Rome High and graduated from East Rome High. She was a homemaker and worked part-time for five years at the Boys Club of Rome.

They have eight grandchildren.

Russell enjoys working in his garden and with his flowers. He also helps coach the Rome High tennis team with his son Dr. Phillip Wood.

Diane enjoys decorating birdhouses and other crafts for friends and family. They have a Shetland sheepdog named “sugar,” that is what keeps them most active.

Some of their happier times were the birth of their children and grandchildre. Also, the years when their children were growing up and they coached their children’s geams in the sports they were involved in.

They love going to the mountains and just being together. Their secret for their long marriage is being able to withstand the ups and downs of a marriage, always toughing out an argument and being able to say you’re sorry at the end of the day.

Remember prayer and your trust in God.

Russell and Diane are planning a trip to the mountains later in the fall.
