Terry and Betty (Gordy) Williamson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 18, 2016.
Their children hosted a family celebration ove rthe holidays in Boone, North Carolina.
The Williamsons were high school sweethearts while attending Cass High School and were married at Cassville Baptist Church by the Rev. Joseph A. Hollis.
Mr. Williamson was a helicopter pilot in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and Air Medal. He received his B.S. and M.B.A. from Berry College. He is a C.P.A. and a former member of the Floyd County BOE. He retired from Georgia Northwestern Technical College in 2008 where he was VP of Administrative Services.
Mrs. Williamson attended Berry College and graduated from Southern Business University. She retired from Berry College after 20 years of service in 2009. Since retirement the Williamsons have enjoyed traveling to national parks. They have been to 46 national parks and plan on making all 58.
The Williamsons have three children: Terr Jr. (Debbie0 of Chuluota, Florida; Mistye Wilson (Heath) of Marietta and Cherish Pethel (Joseph) of Rome. They have nine grandchildren ages 10 and under.
They are members of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church. They say their secret to a happy marriage is keeping romance alive, being supportive of one another and giving 150 percent when necessary.
