John L. and Ann Stewart celebrated their 50th anniversary on Sept. 19, 2015 with a party given by their son and his family as well as a cruise to Cozumel and the Cayman Islands.
They were married at the Central Church of Christ in Rome on Sept. 19, 1965.
Mrs. Stewart is the former Ann Hall, daughter of the late Colquitt and Mabel Hall.
John graduated from West Rome High School, attended Shorter College and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from Southern Polytechnic College in Marietta. He was a Georgia registered land surveyor and owned his own company for several years before becoming Floyd County Engineer. He retired from that position in 2005.
Ann graduated from East Rome High School. She worked at National City Bank prior to going into a law enforcement career. She began working for the Rome Police Department as a secretary for the detective division, then attended the Georgia Police Academy and became a certified police officer. She was the second female officer and first female detective for the Rome Police Department.
After 13 years with the RPD, she went to work for the Department of Corrections as a surveillance officer based out of the Cartersville Probation Office until her retirement after 25 years of law enforcement.
The Stewarts have one son, Stephen, and two grandchildren.
John and Ann say they love to travel the country on road trips and have also visited Alaska and Hawaii. Their hobbies include nature, animals and bird watching.
