Mr. and Mrs. George W. Kemp Sr. celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Aug. 21.
After serving in the U.S. Army in Korea; George, originally from Bowdon, attended Georgia Southern College where he met the former Edna Faye Morgan from Cave Spring.
George and Faye are both retired teachers from Georgia School for the Deaf. George, an Industrial Arts teacher was also a builder who just completed a home remodel at the age of 85. The Kemps have 3 children; Kathleen Jester, Wallace Kemp and Elizabeth Wade. They have four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
When asked what the secret is to staying married for 60 years, Faye said, “Just let him have his way.”
She said her grandfather, preacher Ed Dempsey used to marry couples at their house on Buttermilk Road and he would tell the couple not to start a marriage crossways, but to be straight with one another and he would line their feet up with the floorboards.
