Barbara and Johnny Davis

Johnny and Barbara Davis recently celebrated their 60th anniversary.

They began became high school sweethearts while at Rome High School, became engaged when they graduated in 1954 and and were married on Sept. 25, 1955.

Johnny attended Shorter College and the University of Oklahoma Banking School. He went into a career in finance at Peoples Financial Corp. for 17 years and 28 years in banking, starting with the Rome Bank & Trust Co., ending with Regions Bank. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and is a current member of the U.S. Marine Corps. League. He volunteers at the Rome Area History Museum.

Barbara worked for the State of Georgia as a secretary for Vocational Rehabilitation Services, left that job in 1989 to become the founder and director of Ministries of Love, a non-profit Christian organization based in Rome. She continues to speak at many Christian retreats, conferences and church services in several states and in the Rome area. She is very involve dlocally in helping people in crisis.

The Davises are actively involved in their home church, the West Rome United Methodist Church.

They have two daughters, Alison Davis Dillen and Lisa Davis Odom. They have two granddaughters.

The couple reaffirmed their vows at West Rome United Methodist on Sept. 27.

Barbara and Johnny say the secret to any successful marriage, including theirs, is to trust in God and keep the vows they made before Him on their wedding day.
