Trey Salmon never anticipated that he would one day own a funeral home. Today, he and his wife Brooke are co-owners of the Salmon Funeral Home, 2516 New Calhoun Highway, along with business partners Mark and Pam Sidwell.
The chapel of the new funeral home, the former Fred Talley Funeral Home, is named the Carl Sidwell Chapel, after Mark’s father.
Salmon got into the industry at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home in Coosa. “I ended up liking it,” Salmon said.
After eight years at the Good Shepherd Funeral Home, Salmon said he actually tried to buy it but couldn’t work out a deal. He said he gave serious thought and prayer to getting out of the industry altogether, but finally realized that serving people through the funeral home industry was a calling.
“Then the opportunity came up to buy this funeral home and here I am,” Salmon said.
The new Salmon Funeral Home has three full-time employees, three part-times, and Salmon said members of his own family would be doing part-time work greeting families and in other similar roles.
