Jake Latimer and his wife Ashlei have opened the Level Up arcade game room at 1850 Redmond Circle.

“When I was a young kid I always liked going to the arcade and playing arcade games,” said Jake Latimer. “I know a lot of people in Rome and they are looking for someplace to have birthday parties, but hate to have to go to Atlanta. There aren’t any arcades around Rome anymore.”

Latimer said he thought about it for about four years and finally decided to move forward with the project. He’s got about 25 games in the arcade right now along with a couple of bouncy houses. He plans to add more games to the building over the course of the next several months.

Latimer and his wife plan to open a restaurant adjacent to the arcade in a couple of weeks. The adjacent space in the small strip shopping center was previously a restaurant, but the Latimers have to make a few minor modifications to the building.

Red Cross offers holiday blood collection site in Rome

The holidays are always a busy time and the need for blood doesn’t take time off. The American Red Cross is encouraging healthy donors to give blood in the weeks leading up to the winter holidays to help stock the shelves for patients in need.

The period of time between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day is a time when thousands of people are on the road. Many of them are regular donors who put off giving blood due to hustle and bustle of the holidays activities. This often decreases the amount of donated blood available for patients.

The American Red Cross will conduct special blood drives November 13 from 3-7 p.m. at the Northwest Georgia Chapter facility 112, John Maddox Drive in Rome and November 14 at the Nathan Dean Center, 604 Goodyear Street in Rockmart.

The Red Cross is still a major supplier if blood nationwide though Blood Assurance, based in Chattanooga, provides blood supplies for both of the Rome hospitals.
