Small Business Snapshot

Connie Naugher, owner of the 1955 Barber Shop on Alabama Highway.

Connie Naugher, owner/operater of Ninteen Fifty-Five Barber Shop answers the questions for today’s Small Business Snapshot.

What is the primary purpose of your business?

The primary purpose of my business is to provide clients a quality service at reasonable prices in a clean, friendly atmosphere.

What is your business background?

My business background began in 1981 at the age of 17 years old when I began a career in cosmotology. In 1991 I began to train under Master Barber Herb Brown as an apprentice barber. I have worked at several shops in Rome and I have owned/operated a barber shop of my own.

Why did you start this particular business? I believe this area needed a barber shop to accommodate this side of town.

What makes your business unique? The name itself is unique. It has been nicknamed ’55. The building fits the name, which I have had since 2005. ’55 has that old time feel with up-to-date style. Nineteen Fifty-Five is a barber shop and salon, we offer services for men, women and children including haircuts, beard grooming, shaves, high lights, color and perms. We also offer beard oil and other beard products.

What do you enjoy most about your chosen profession?

I enjoy helping people feel good. When your haircut looks good it makes you feel better. I also love to meet different people and share our life stories. I have gained many long term friendships through cutting hair and I have no objections to obtaining more.

What has been the biggest challenge to overcome as a small business owner?

My biggest challenge has been getting my name — along with the shop’s name — out there so people know where I am located, business hours and what this shop is about.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers? I’d like to add that if regular hours are unsuitable for anyone, before and after hour appointments are available. Call 706 233-3061. Go over to “Nineteenfiftyfivebarbershop” on Facebook and check out specials every week. ’55 was a dream I had, so I give thanks and appreciation to my son Brett Kendrick as well as Christina Marks for believing in me and making my dream come alive. They put all into opening Nineteen Fifty-Five Barber Shop and Salon. Without them it would not be open today. I thank you both.
